Copywriting

“I'm always amazed at your gift for writing and how well you articulate your thoughts. I have enormous respect for you and every day I learn more about the best way to communicate ideas. I love your enthusiasm and excitement for your craft. That is something that can't be taught and something not all teachers can tout.”

Trusty sits at a computer with a hectic desk and a pencil in their mouth.

I write very special copy and I love it.

I love alliteration, the Oxford comma, one word sentences, abstract themes, and using words to illustrate ideas.

My therapist often refers to an idea called the "gift package". Each of us came with a gift package in our lifetime - some are incredibly athletic, some comprehend and thrive in Algebra II (how?!), some are naturally maternal, some are unbelievably hilarious. I'm still discovering what came in my gift package but I do know the first few boxes I've opened have included strong intuition, abundant compassion, and so so so many ideas for reaching people and serving communities. My package also includes a writing voice that is never flowery but uniquely descriptive, darkly humorous but heartbreakingly truthful, connected to reality but question-raising and dream-inducing. I'm an innovative gal with a collaborative spirit. And I’m really good at reaching people.

Some more back story…

  • In 2013, I started an anonymous blog called "Trust Me, I've Been There" (get it? a little play on the last name there) that openly discussed disordered eating, diet culture, and body image within the entertainment industry. At the time, blogs were all the rage and mine went viral. 6,000 views a day. 10,000 views a day. 25,000 views a day. I was talking about something that we had kept hush hush about for such a long time and it turns out that the space for this particular conversation was deeply needed for everyone - not just those identifying as women. This is how I built my writing platform and fell in love with describing the world in my own way. It got the attention of Oxford University Press (will you write a book about body image in the dance industry?), Huffington Post (we're naming you one of nine women changing the way we talk about body image in dance), Sadie Jane Dancewear (will you design a line of plus-sized dancewear?), Scary Mommy, The Today Show, and Shape and LOOK magazines.

  • When I opened Kona Dance & Performing Arts on the Big Island in 2016, I built our brand from scratch: social media, family communications, donor requests, community newsletters, program descriptions, and website copy. Now, I’ve spent the last six years focusing on the work in front of me rather than publishing more work online. Since 2016, my roles as Artistic Director, Education Manager, Studio Owner, Resume Revamper, College Admission Essay Editor, Stage Manager, Public Speaker, Accessibility Advocate, Customer Success Rep, Competition Judge, and Published Writer have grown my skillset as a copywriter and a brand-builder.

  • Now, I’ve shut down the blog, refocused my attention to supporting brands that are focused on social good, and I’m really reveling in writing my own stories once again.

I feel passionate about empowering the visionaries of today with unique copy for audience retention and brand expansion. Whether you’re building your personal website or you’re hoping to evolve your client-base, I’m confident that we can construct a plan together to satisfy your needs. Let’s bring your vision to life.
